Diocesan Guidelines are suspending all activities for Youth & Teens through March 30, 2020.
Culture Project: The Culture Project is an initiative of young people set out to restore culture through the experience of virtue. In this missionary community, young adults from around the country commit to proclaiming the dignity of the human person, and the richness of living sexual integrity. Our speakers are trained by faithful experts in the fields of medicine, psychology, philosophy, and theology. Thus, they are equipped to discuss these important topics with knowledge and understanding, while maintaining the utmost respect for the sensitivity of your children.
As we have heard, Lent is a time where we are called to “prayer, fasting, and almsgiving”. But what is almsgiving? Almsgiving is the practice of giving money and resources to people who have less. There are two main reasons why we are encouraged to give alms. The obvious reason is to ensure we are looking after the poor in our world – so they are healthy and happy. The second reason is to help ourselves grow. By giving away what we have, we become less attached to the material world. We are encouraged to give, not from our excess, but as the widow gave in the Gospel. Mark (12:41-44)
With humble smiles and gifts in tow, St. Mary’s Youth Group showed up to surprise the residents of Cheswick Rehabilitation and Wellness Center with fleece blankets for Christmas on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
Headed up by Rhiannon Wagner, a Junior at Hampton High School, a server for our Parish, and also a member of the youth group, Rhiannon led the youth ministry team, working over six weeks to meet our goal of making120 blankets. We strove to finish and meet our goal. The youth group finished a total of 115 blankets and were able to hand-deliver the majority of them to the residents. There were warm thanks and friendly conversations exchanged between the teens and the residents. Many thanks to the parents who donated the items and the staff from Cheswick Rehabilitation and Wellness for making this worthwhile experience happen. There were five blankets left and we gave them to the homeless while passing out other gift items to them. As the Magi brought gifts to the New Born King, we the youth ministry team, brought gifts as the hands and feet of Christ to his children! See the photos below.
